Germany’s Europipe was awarded 65 per cent of the supply contract, Russia’s OMK 25 per cent, and Japan’s Sumitomo 10 per cent.

Delivery of the pipes for the second line is scheduled to begin in May 2010.

The 1,220 km Nord Stream Pipeline consists of two parallel lines, which will transport natural gas through the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany for connection to the European energy grid.

Construction of the first line of the Nord Stream Pipeline is scheduled to commence on 1 April 2010, with the construction of line two planned to begin mid-2011.
