A NEW OIL pipeline around Beijing will go into operation shortly and is expected to ensure a stable future supply for the city. The pipeline, designed with a capacity of 2.85m tons/yr, will provide 70% of the city’s oil supply, according to a Sinopec spokesman.
The 183-km pipeline circumnavigates the city and links five oil depots along one of the outer ring roads with Sinopec's Yanshan refinery in SW Beijing. A similar (129-km long) aviation kerosene pipeline is being constructed along the same route, which is expected to transport 1.2m tons/yr of aviation kerosene from the Yanshan refinery to Beijing's International Airport.
