Directed at the general public, the campaign will include meetings with local communities and visits to schools by pipeline specialists.

The campaign, which is being carried out under the guidance of the Ministry of Oil and Gas, aims to highlight the potential dangers of oil and gas pipelines and the need to respect the restricted areas around the pipelines.

Oman’s Oil and Gas Minister Dr Mohammed bin Hamed bin Saif Al Rumhy said that oil and gas pipelines are extremely important to the economic development of the nation, but they are also “potentially dangerous and must be protected.”

PDO and OGC operate an extensive network of pipelines. Significant pipelines include PDO’s main oil line, which links interior fields with the export terminal at Mina al Fahal, and OGC’s gas pipelines, which connect gas fields in the centre of Oman with Salalah, Muscat, Sohar and across the border with the United Arab Emirates through the Dolphin project.

Chief Executive Officer of OGC Yousuf Al Ojaili said “Our network of gas pipelines and supply stations contain highly flammable natural gas. We need to educate the public of the need to observe the right-of-way of these important assets in order to protect the safety of people and assets and to ensure non-interruptible supply of gas to the different sectors.”
