Both projects are related to TransCanada’s proposed Keystone XL project, a 2,736 km pipeline that would expand the existing Keystone system and deliver crude oil to refineries in the US Midwest and the Gulf Coast.

The proposed Cushing Marketlink project would involve construction of approximately $US70 million of facilities at Cushing, Oklahoma. It would provide oil transportation service from Cushing to a delivery point near existing terminals in Nederland, Texas, using pipeline facilities that form part the proposed Keystone XL project.

TransCanada held a successful open season for the Cushing Marketlink project in 2010, but is now seeking additional commitments to deliver crude oil to Port Arthur, as well as commitments for new service to Houston, Texas, via the Keystone Houston Lateral. The lateral would involve a capacity expansion and the construction of an approximately 80 km pipeline extension from the proposed Keystone XL system, transporting crude oil from Hardisty, Alberta, to a refining centre in Houston, Texas.

Following the completion of the open season – which closes on 17 October 2011 – and subject to receipt of sufficient contractual commitments from shippers, TransCanada intends to proceed with the necessary regulatory applications for approvals to construct and operate the projects’ facilities.
