The field lies in varying water depth between 300 and 3000m.p Petrobras initially registered interest in Block 5 in the first round of bidding opened by the government of Tanzania in 2001, and the newly-signed agreement for operations in Block 5 involve an initial exploitation period of four years. Petrobras will be able to extend the agreement data for another four-year period, and after that, for a further three- year period. Petrobras’ participation in this offshore exploitation in Tanzania is understood to meet the company’s strategic guidelines that foresee the selective expansion of its international performance in the areas in which it can offer competitive advantages, particularly in terms of its recognized capability in deep- and ultra-deep water operations.
