The 12 inch diameter pipeline will carry 6 MMcm/a of petrol and diesel fuel from Matola Harbour in Mozambique to Kendal in Mpumalanga, South Africa.
Earlier this year Petroline Project Manage Peet de Pontes said that the commissioning of the project would be postponed until early 2011 after a delay in the environmental assessment process.
However, South Africa’s energy regulator has published revised conditions for Petroline’s construction licence with a commissioning deadline of March 2010 for the pipeline and associated storage facilities.
The regulator has said that if Petroline changed the commissioning date, it would be in contravention of its licence and would be in danger of losing the licence. Alternatively, the company can apply for an amendment to change the completion date of the licence.
