At its Stakeholders Conference from 2–4 February 2011, the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) outlined plans to invest in the Dar es Salaam – Tanga – Mombasa Natural Gas Pipeline project.
The project involves the construction of approximately 530 km of natural gas pipeline from Dar es Salaam to Tanga and Mombasa, including related facilities and provision for possible future expansion of the pipeline system including construction of a spur line to supply other key consumption centres such as Moshi and Arusha cities and other off-take points.
Earlier, the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat in collaboration with Tanzania’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TDPC) held a one-day workshop to discuss the feasibility study for the pipeline.
The workshop discussed the market analysis, economic and financial evaluation factors, route selection and environmental issues, and it provided valuable feedback to the consultants on the second phase of the feasibility study, which is being carried out in four phases.
