ABERDEEN-BASED BJ Process and Pipeline Services (BJ PPS) has completed a pipeline precommissioning operation for Subtec Middle East, a subsidiary of Global Industries Ltd, who is the installation contractor for the offshore section of the Atlantis gasfield development in the United Arab Emirates. Atlantis comprises a wellhead platform that feeds a 75-km long gas pipeline to the shore.
Prior to start-up and commissioning, BJ PPS's services included flooding, dewatering, hydrotesting, air-drying, and nitrogen purging to –20°C on the 14-in pipeline, which extends from the platform to the first onshore flange before the RAK gas terminal. The work was performed by engineers and technical personnel with specialized equipment based in Dubai. "We are very pleased the pre-commissioning operation for Subtec on the Atlantis Project was carried out safely and efficiently," said Lindsay Link, general manager of BJ Process and Pipeline Services "The entire operation was completed in 26 days [which] is extremely impressive considering the 75km length of the pipeline. We look forward to working again on behalf Subtec in the future," he added.
