A BREAKTHROUGH in pipeline security has been introduced by Radiodetection of Bristol, UK, a specialist in cable-locator and pipeline-inspection systems.
Secure Pipe is an advanced security monitoring system that uses fibre-optic sensors to detect any attack to within 150m along buried and surface pipelines up to 60km long. With the system, the company says that any alarm generated can be fed into the proprietary software or third-party control software to interface with SCADA or CCTV systems. This highly-sensitive system pre-warns security crews of any impending threat to a specific location, and the system’s intelligent event discrimination is designed to minimize false alarm rates to save time and costs. It is understood to be easy to install, requires no field power, and is unaffected by RFI, EMI, lightning, or storm interference.
