Poland plans to join and extend Norway-Sweden gas pipeline

THE POLISH government says that it wishes to join a consortium that is building a gas pipeline between Norway and Sweden, with a view to extending the gas supply route to Poland, according to Economy Minister Piotr Wozniak. “Poland has the opportunity to join the Gassco consortium which will transport Norwegian gas to the Swedish coast.
The aim of the government is to extend the pipeline to Poland," Mr Wozniak was reported by Poland's PAP news agency as saying. "After six months of negotiations, we have managed to convince the Gassco group to give us access to the project," said Wozniak.
Gassco's assessment of the feasibility of a subsea pipeline running around the Norwegian coast from the Karsto processing plant north of Stavanger to Sweden has evoked considerable interest, and studies have already shown that industry in southern and SE Norway as well as western Sweden are keen to buy gas from this source. An executive committee chaired by Gassco has been set up to supervise future work on developing the project to the next phase by 1 October.
