The Screener Crusher is widely used in the oil and gas pipeline industry as a specialty attachment for excavators, wheel loaders and backhoes, which can be used to screen excavated soil from the pipeline trench for pipeline padding and backfill.
The ALLU 3-17 Screener Crusher unit can quickly pick up approximately 1.6 sq m of excavated soil and deliver screened fill onto a pipeline without damaging the pipe. The excavator operator then empties larger rocks out of the bucket before picking up the next load.
The units are equipped with three chain-driven drums with 40 mm disc spacing and changeable hammers, and are driven by a two-way hydraulic drive system. The rotating drums and hammers serve to pulverise and size backfill material to the desired size.

Leslie Equipment, an ALLU dealer based in West Virginia, USA, sold a number of ALLU Screener Crusher units to ST Pipeline for use in applications such as pipeline padding and backfill. The attachments were connected to John Deere 240D and 270D excavators for the gas pipeline project. Six to eight Screener Crusher units were used per day at the southwestern Pennsylvania location.
ST Pipeline founder Jim Shafer has used ALLU Screener Crushers in pipeline padding for the past six years. When he first saw the ALLU in action, he bought two of the units and today he owns six. Mr Shafer rents more units from his local John Deere dealer when he needs to complete projects on tight schedules.
“I like the ALLU because of its portability, and it works in any kind of soil or weather conditions,” Mr Shafer said.
ALLU said that its Screener Crushers are often a preferred method of padding when the terrain is rocky or rugged, or very steep on mountainsides.
The attachments are available in six different screen size options to handle difficult soil conditions, such as heavy clay or wet sticky soil. ALLU manufactures over 60 models to fit any size excavator, wheel loader, backhoe, skid steer, or mini excavator.
