Gazprom has commenced construction of the Portovaya compressor station – part of the Gryazovets to Vyborg Gas Pipeline – in Portovaya Bay near Vyborg, Leningrad Oblast.
The 366 MW Portovaya compressor station will be the starting point for gas entering the Nord Stream Pipeline from the 917 km Gryazovets – Vyborg gas pipeline.
Gazprom has said that the Portovaya compressor station will be a unique gas transmission facility by virtue of its aggregate capacity, working pressure, gas transmission distance and daily gas dehydration volume.
The compressor station will secure gas transmission over the entire 1,200 km distance of the Nord Stream Pipeline removing the need to construct compressor stations along the German coast.
The first stage compressor facilities are scheduled to come online in 2011, with final capacity of 366 MW to be put onstream in 2012.
