“PSL has emerged as the lowest bidder in the tender in face of stiff competition from international and Indian pipe manufacturers including Korean giant Daewoo, Chinese firms, and Indian firms like SAW Pipes and Essar Construction,” the company said. Under the contract, PSL will supply 55km 20-in diameter of high-pressure pipe on a CIF Chittagong basis for the Nalka Bogra gas transmission project. Bangladesh had invited bids from both helically-submerged-arc-welded (HSAW) and longitudinally-submerged-arc-welded (LSAW) pipe makers, which resulted in considerable cost saving. PSL quoted a price of $3.18 million against the second lowest bidder of LSAW pipe, SAW Pipes, who had quoted $3.96 million, the company is reported to have said. PSL, one of the country’s leading manufacturers of steel, is engaged in various types of pipe coating and pipe manufacturing at Daman, Kandla, Nani Chirai, Chennai, and Vishakhapatnam.
