CANADA’S National Energy Board has approved Duke Energy Corp’s application for a $42-million pipeline to transport British Columbia natural gas into Alberta.
Under Duke's Grizzly gas-transmission system extension proposal, the company wants to construct a 110-km long pipeline to a point southwest of Grande Prairie, Alberta, from northeastern British Columbia. The company, which operates BC's main gas-transmission system, also applied for a lateral line connecting gas reserves in the Ojay/Weejay region of the province to the Grizzly extension.
The NEB, Canada's main energy regulatory, considered the application at a public hearing in June. It approved the project after Environment Minister David Anderson ruled it needed no more assessment under federal environmental legislation.
