IRAN’S ambassador to India, S Z Yaghoubi, has said that the techno-economic feasibility study for a subsea gas pipeline from Iran to India will be ready within three months.
Italy’s Snamprogetti will submit the feasibility of laying a subsea pipeline, outside Pakistani waters, from southern Iran to India. “We had some technical difficulty (during the feasibility study) but hopefully it will be ready in two to three months maximum,” Mr S Z Yaghoubi said in early November on the sidelines of a FICCI meeting.
However, Iran and Pakistan are both keen on the 2,670-km long 48-in diameter land pipeline, as it would provide the former with a cheap route to sell its vast gas reserves, and the latter would earn about £340million/yr transit fee from the £2-billion gas line.
