NORWEGIAN operator Gassco has awarded a contract to Marine Mätteknikk AB of Sweden to undertake a total of 636km of seabed surveys for potential CO2 pipelines. This work will commence imminently and will take up to three weeks of continuous offshore survey work.
Gassco, under its mandate from the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy and in co-operation with Gassnova SF and the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD), is currently evaluating technical solutions for the transportation of captured CO2 from flue gas emitted by Naturkraft's 420-MW gas fired power plant at Karsto and the new thermal power plant under development at Mongstad. Suitable locations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf shall be evaluated for the sequestration of the captured CO2.
The survey work to be performed by Marine Mätteknikk AB will provide essential data for the transport routes to be further developed during the pre-engineering phase, due to commence in the first quarter of 2009.
