Syria and Turkey have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to connect the two countries’ gas networks by pipeline, in order to facilitate a gas sales and purchase agreement.
Under the agreement, Turkey would supply 0.5–1 MMcm/a of gas to Syria, starting in 2011.
Syrian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Sufian al-Allao and Turkish Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz agreed to consider constructing a pipeline connecting the two countries.
Mr Yildiz told local media that the agreement opens the door for future co-operation in the oil industry.
