Telvent will provide its pipeline operations, logistics, and revenue-information system to help manage the business functions of oil movement through the pipeline. TAPS is one of the largest pipeline systems in the world, and moves more than 17% of the US domestic crude oil production at an average rate of approximately 1,000,000 barrels a day. APSC operates and maintains the TAPS, and selected the new system to replace a number of its current applications. With the new system, APSC will be able to consolidate the business functions of these "legacy" applications into an integrated system, thereby reducing duplicate data entry, improving information access, and reducing total cost of ownership. Polaris was first developed by Telvent in 1996, and has evolved since then to address the specific needs of both oil and gas companies. The system provides a comprehensive pipeline accounting solution that integrates nominations, allocations, gain/loss analysis, invoicing, and revenue accounting. The software runs on both Unix and Windows platforms, and has a browser-based user interface.
