It is said to represent a major step forward in simplifying the company's range and, uniquely, has only three moving parts. Reduced weight and improvements in integrity and safety combine, it is claimed, to offer a range of tools that are built to last longer than competitive tools and are supported by a three-year warranty. The major design advantage of the new RSD tool range is to satisfy applications where square drive only is required, with the development of a single-piece stainless steel casting for the housing, offering strength and integrity. The current Hydratight Sweeney RSL range has interchangeable head assemblies that provides both square-socket drive and direct hexagon box-wrench drives. Safety is a major consideration when operating tools under high-pressure. The high- and low-pressure hydraulics are identified clearly with markings cast into the tool body. This is supported by colour coding of the extra flexible hydraulic whip hoses fitted to the power head of the wrenches. Improved safety through greater strength and lower weight also apply to the new reaction arms that are used with both the tool ranges. A new cast stainless steel design has been developed to be significantly stronger than normal cast steel or aluminium designs, whilst lighter than steel and almost the same as aluminium. The new design provides a compact package that has improved strength with tests confirming strength double that of current industry standards. These tests have incorporated site operation with field technicians to replicate on site conditions. The new tool is a three-model range with 1-in and 1.5-in square-socket drives and a maximum output torque when operated at 10,000psi.
