Toyota Tshusho has proposed the construction of a 1,400 km oil pipeline from Jabu, South Sudan, to Kenya’s Lamu port on the Indian Ocean coastline.
The pipeline would provide an alternative route to Sudan’s only current oil exporting point, located at Port Sudan in the country’s north.
The proposed pipeline would have a capacity of 450,000 bbl/d of oil and cost $US1.5 billion to construct.
Toyota Tshusho said that it would be necessary to discuss details of the proposed pipeline project with related parties in order to start a concrete examination of the proposal.
