The event, which is organised by the Brazilian Institute of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (IBP) saw over 3,000 attendees pass through. The event attracted delegates with a special interest in Brazilian pre-salt and biofuel production and offloading opportunities.

The three-day, multi-streamed conference highlighted the industry’s advancements in technological development, major projects and a future outlook through its 342 technical papers.

President of the Rio Pipelines Organising Committee Marcelo Renno said “The event has attracted a growing number of professionals due to the increasing importance of the pipeline sector, but mainly due to the relevance of the topics addressed and the substantial participation of the players in the sector.

“We are facing an intense agenda and, therefore, we have the opportunity to exchange experience and knowledge, which will attract the main global representatives of the pipeline sector.”

Practical pigging

A Practical Pigging course, held at the CTDUT facility from 12–16 September, helped engineers and technical personnel involved in field pigging operations sharpen their practical pigging skills.

This unique hands-on experience saw 24 engineers come out and use the 14 inch diameter, 120 m long, water and nitrogen/air-driven test loop at the site.

PipeWay, through its Rio de Janeiro office, agreed to provide cleaning, geometry and intelligent tools and expert technicians for the course, which was presented by Penspen’s Andre Goncalves and John Simon.

The successful course was developed jointly by Penspen, PipeWay, Clarion, and Tiratsoo Technical, a division of Great Southern Press.
