THE UK’s gas-pipeline grid operator National Grid confirmed recently that its 120-km long, 48-in diameter pipeline project to link the two new LNG terminals at Milford Haven, Wales, to the existing UK gas grid remains on track for October next year, subject to planning and environmental permits.
The first phase of the pipe will be completed by the end of this year, while the second stage is expected to gain full planning and environmental consents early next year, so the full project is on track for start up in October, 2007, National Grid spokesman Caroline Davidson said. "Construction of phase one of the project is going extremely well, the weather has helped us with construction and reinstatement of affected land," she said.
The new pipeline will run from Milford Haven to Aberdulais, and is being constructed by a joint venture between Nacap and Lane and Marine Engineering.
National Grid submitted an environmental statement to the UK's Department for Trade and Industry in August for the second phase of the pipeline from Felindre, also in Wales, to Tirley, Gloucestershire. The company is undertaking statutory and public consultation for the second phase, and has a range of additional planning applications pending for above-ground installations and associated equipment.
