UK’s National Grid has approval for Welsh gas pipeline compressor
Tue, 19 December 2006
National Grid has received approval for a compressor station on a pipeline that will bring gas from a new LNG terminal to be built in Wales, a spokeswoman for said recently. The compressor station will be built near Swansea, where the Council members voted 17-5 in favour of the station at a recent meeting.
While there were some objections to the way the vote was conducted from members of the public, which are being investigated, a spokesman for the Council said it was satisfied the vote had been conducted properly.
The new pipeline will connect two LNG facilities under construction at Milford Haven, on the south Wales coast. The pipeline and first LNG terminal should be operational by October, 2007, supplying the UK market with around 7tons/yr of LNG. A second terminal, still awaiting planning consent, could double that capacity by the end of 2009.
