MAJOR US pipeline operator Williams has applied to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to expand its Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line system to serve NE US markets, where gas deliveries into the New York City area have been restricted.
The Liedy, Pa, to Long Island, NY, expansion is designed to increase capacity by 100m cuft/d from November, 2007, the company said, enough gas to serve around 400,000 homes per day.
Liedy is a major gas storage and marketing hub. The new pipeline will allow incremental peaking gas volumes from newly-developed US storage sites. A further proposed pipeline in the region, the Millenium pipeline, will also bring-in incremental Canadian volumes; this project is scheduled to begin construction later this year. The new proposal requires expanding facilities in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, including adding about 17km of 42-in pipe, replacing about 6km of 42-in pipe, and adding a new compressor facility. The projected cost is about $121m, Williams said, and construction of the compressor station will begin in January, 2007, while pipeline construction will begin in March.
