CHINA Petroleum & Chemical Corp (Sinopec), Asia’s top refiner, has began constructing the first section of its planned gas pipeline linking the Puguang gasfield in SW China’s Sichuan province to eastern Shanghai, parent company Sinopec Group reports. The first section, 1,360km long, will link Yichang in central China’s Hubei province to Shanghai.
Construction commenced in Zhijiang in Hubei on 22 May, with further work beginning simultaneously at sites at Qianjiang in Hubei, Changxing in Zhejiang, and Nanling in Anhui Province on 25 May, the company said. Puguang had proven reserves of 356bn cum at the end of 2006, and the completed 1,702-km, v$8.59-billion, pipeline will have an annual capacity of 12bn cum, with maximum capacity projected to reach 15bn cum/yr.
Construction of the pipeline is expected to be completed in 2010. Sinopec said output at Puguang is expected to reach over 10bn cum by the end of 2008, and 15bn cum by the end of 2009.
