UK-BASED AMEC has won a gas pipeline engineering, procurement, and construction contract in Yemen with its partner Hawk International.
The two-year contract, worth more than $200 million, (AMEC's share is 55%) has been awarded to AMEC Spie Capag by Yemen LNG, a subsidiary of Total. The pipeline will carry gas from a field close to the town of Marib, 180km east of the Yemeni capital Sana'a, to an LNG terminal being built close to Bal Haf in the Gulf of Aden. The project will involve the development of 320km of 38-in gas pipeline and 25km of 20-in pipeline, together with a number of ancillary structures.
"This important contract was won on the back of our long-standing relationships in the region and our reputation for delivering pipeline projects in harsh environments," said AMEC Spie Capag's managing director Daniel Gasquet. "The work will commence immediately, and we expect to eventually employ more than 1,200 people, including around 50 from the AMEC Spie Capag project-management team."
