Steel pipe manufacturer Tuberias Procarsa has produced its first large diameter spiral pipe after putting a Schuler-manufactured plant into operation.
Experts currently estimate that more than 10,000 km of pipeline will be laid each year in North America by 2020, most of it spiral pipes.
The plant is 285 m in length and will enable the company to produce spiral pipes with a diameter of 508 to 2,235 mm and in lengths of 12 to 24.4 m.
The Schuler plant also features equipment for inspecting large diameter pipes in accordance with the API 5L standard, as well as an integrated coil preparation stand, ensuring short changeover times, increased operational safety, the elimination of the need for a crane transfer and a reduction in energy expenditure of up to 30 per cent.
