Corinth has been awarded two major contracts in Europe, with customers taking advantage of the company’s world-class pipe manufacturing expertise.
Corinth Pipeworks has continued to see engagement with customers in the European region, securing manufacture and supply contracts in Romania and Italy.
In May 2019, Corinth Pipeworks was selected to manufacture and supply 8 inch (203 mm) steel pipes for the infield line and 16 inch (406 mm) steel pipes for the Midia Gas Development Project’s (MGD) offshore gas transport pipeline. The MGD comprises the Ana and Doina gas fields, discovered in 2007 and 1995 respectively, 120 km off the Romanain coast in 70 m of water.
The project is operated by Black Sea Oil & Gas and includes the drilling of five production wells, including one at Doina field and four at the Ana field, and installation of a subsea production system at the Doina field.
The subsea gas production system will be tied-back to an unmanned production platform installed at the Ana field through an 18 km pipeline, while a 121 km gas pipeline will transport gas from the Ana platform to an onshore location. A 4.1 km underground pipeline will deliver the gas transported by the pipeline to a new gas treatment plant.
The MGD will be developed through an estimated investment of $400 million and it is expected to produce 1 billion m3 of gas/year, representative of 10 per cent of Romania’s total consumption. The pipes will be manufactured through 2019 in Corinth’s plant in Thisvi, Greece, and Corinth will also apply external 3LPE anti-corrosion coating and concrete weight coating at the same facility.
The installation work is scheduled for 2020 with an aim for the project to be commissioned by early-2021.
Continuing its strong presence in Europe, Snam S.p.A., Europe’s leading gas utility with main operations in Italy, has awarded 150 km of gas pipeline manufacturing to Corinth. Corinth has a long history with Snam, having worked together on projects for more than a decade, resulting in more than 800 km of completed and progressing pipeline operations.
The 26 inch (660mm) outside diameter gas line pipe will be used for the replacement of the old gas line pipe network in central Italy.
Extremely high manufacture performance criteria, including pipe quality assurance measures, are in place to ensure that the gas pipeline meets the highest safety standards and good engineering practices. Like the MGD, the pipes will be manufactured at Corinth’s factory in Thisvi, Greece and the scope of supply also includes external 3LPE anti-corrosion coating and internal liquid epoxy lining applied at the same location.
