INEOS has delayed its planned June shut down of the Forties Pipeline System (FPS) in the North Sea until August at the earliest.
The decision was made due to the growing COVID-19 pandemic, necessitating the reduction of large numbers of people.
INEOS said it is mindful of the benefits the project works offers to future operation of FPS and the risks it poses by not going ahead; however, the company also recognises the importance of maintaining a flow of oil and gas through the system during this situation.
With the support of many customers requesting the shutdown delay, INEOS will continue to work with the government to provide more information as soon as practical.
In the coming days, INEOS will have discussions with its customers and stakeholders to define the best new dates to schedule the shutdown.
